Close Range Shot

Log Line

  • “Close Range Shot” tells the story of a Stasi employee whose life is tragically ended by a death sentence in the GDR.

    Background information:

The courts of the GDR imposed 227 final death sentences, of which 166 were executed. They could be imposed for murder and war crimes, but also for espionage, sabotage and about 15 other offenses. They were first executed by decapitation with the guillotine, from 1966 by an “unexpected close shot” in the neck. The secrecy of all executions from 1949 to the end of the GDR 1990 is striking. Even in the case of overtly announced death sentences in show trials, enforcement was always kept completely secret.
